The Bridgewater community will benefit from improved access to Centrelink and Medicare services, with the opening of the new-look Services Australia Bridgewater Service Centre this week.

Minister for Government Services the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the service centre at Green Point Road is the first in Tasmania to offer upgraded self-service facilities and digital support.

‘The Bridgewater Service Centre is offering appointment-based Centrelink services so customers can skip the queue and visit the service centre at a time that suits them,’ Minister Reynolds said.

‘People who need to speak with Services Australia staff face-to-face about their Centrelink business can just call their regular payment line to book an appointment.

‘Bridgewater Service Centre’s new self-service terminals will also provide additional support to customers accessing the agency’s digital service offering.

‘While people can do their Medicare and Centrelink business online, we know people may want assistance to get started. Our upgraded self-service facilities are easy to use and staff are on hand to help people register for and continue to use digital service options.’

Liberal Senator for Tasmania, Claire Chandler welcomed the upgrades after floods damaged the site earlier in the year.

‘The Bridgewater community will be well-served by new facilities at the service centre, particularly customers who will benefit from access to video chat facilities for some services,’ Senator Chandler said.

‘The refurbished Service Centre will continue to provide the range of important services that will benefit those living in Bridgewater and surrounding areas.

‘I would like to thank Services Australia staff who continued to provide these important services to the community from a temporary premises after the flooding event, and for their work to complete this important upgrade.’
